The
Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. responded to a smell in the area of Cockrell
Hill Rd. and Jefferson Blvd. Upon finding an unknown substance leaking
from an unmarked 15 to 20 gal. container, C.H.F.D. called in Dallas
County Fire Rescue Haz-Mat Team to help identify the substance. Prior to
their arrival, C.H.F.D. took U.S.D.O.T. precautions and confined the area
to a 100+ feet in all directions. The incident lasted about 4 hours.

The
Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. put on a Haunted House during October to help
raise money for the department. We were able to raise approximately
$5,000 that will be used to purchase much needed equipment. This was due
largely to the efforts of Kathy Devine, Mary Gumfory, Fred and Jennet
Foster plus a large group of neighborhood kids, without whose help, this
could not have been done.
The
long anticipated approval of Cockrell Hill's liquor sales license has
finally happened. Don Silverman is now full speed ahead on the
construction of the new shopping plaza. The tax revenue from all alcohol
sales will benefit both the Cockrell Hill Police and Fire Departments.
