November 19, 2007

The officers and members of the Cockrell Hill Fire Department wish to express their sorrow for the loss of Dallas Fire Rescue Firefighter Julio Alvarado, Jr. Firefighter Alvarado was killed early Saturday morning by an alleged drunk driver. He leaves behind a wife and 3 kids.

 

November 12, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. responded to a smell in the area of Cockrell Hill Rd. and Jefferson Blvd. Upon finding an unknown substance leaking from an unmarked 15 to 20 gal. container, C.H.F.D. called in Dallas County Fire Rescue Haz-Mat Team to help identify the substance. Prior to their arrival, C.H.F.D. took U.S.D.O.T. precautions and confined the area to a 100+ feet in all directions. The incident lasted about 4 hours.

 

November 11, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. participated in the Emergency preparedness tour given at the Wal-Mart on Cockrell Hill Rd. We came with 2 engines and our command vehicle and our new addition to our fire prevention team, our fire safety robot.

November 11, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. responded to mutual aid with Dallas Fire Rescue to a large mulch fire in the south part of Dallas. We responded with Booster 225, light trailer 227, and support 224. We were on scene for 13 hours and were relieved about 7 a.m. Monday morning.

 

November 10, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. put on a Haunted House during October to help raise money for the department. We were able to raise approximately $5,000 that will be used to purchase much needed equipment. This was due largely to the efforts of Kathy Devine, Mary Gumfory, Fred and Jennet Foster plus a large group of neighborhood kids, without whose help, this could not have been done.

November 6, 2007

The long anticipated approval of Cockrell Hill's liquor sales license has finally happened. Don Silverman is now full speed ahead on the construction of the new shopping plaza. The tax revenue from all alcohol sales will benefit both the Cockrell Hill Police and Fire Departments.

 

September 15, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. participated in the 6th Annual Russ Martin Heroes Parade to benefit the fallen firefighters and police officers of north Texas.

The fire department once again has sent 3 firefighters to Texas A&M for fire week at T E E X's: Chief Burns, Captain Devine, and Firefighter Devine.

  • The Chief took Rescue 3 dealing with the new cars on the road and hybrid cars.
  • The Captain took Firefighter 3 dealing with advanced firefighting
  • Firefighter Devine took Firefighter 2 continuing her level of firefighting

 

February 24, 2007

The Cockrell Hill Fire Dept. in cooperation the Next Door Club will be sponsoring a chili cook off with the proceeds to go to the CHFD for training and equipment.

The event will be held March 10th, 2007.

 

December 7, 2006

The CHFD held it's end of the year meeting.

  • Captain Devine was named Firefighter of the year
  • Secretary Sylvia Landon was named Member of the year
  • Chief Burns was elected chief for 2 more years
  • Asst.Chief and Captain stayed the same
  • Richard Rock was made 1st Lieutenant
  • More results to come

 

December 1, 2006

Chief Burns and Capt. Devine went to Indiana to pick up and drive back our new support services unit. We obtained it from the Indianapolis Fire Department. It will make a much needed addition to our growing fleet and help serve the residents of Cockrell Hill.

Firefighter Richard Rangel took the plunge and was married in down town Dallas at the Cathedral church. Our best wishes go out to him and his lovely bride Cloris for a long and happy life.

The officers and members with great sorrow convey our deepest sympathies to the family and our fellow firefighters of the Fort Worth Fire Department on the loss of Chief Leonard Gaines untimely passing.

The CHFD participated in the Russ Martin Hero's parade to show support for remembering 9/11 and all the fallen firefighters and police officers in north Texas in conjunction with the Russ Martin Listeners Foundation.

The CHFD participated in a fill the boot fund drive to help raise money for new equipment.

In about 3 hours, we raised a little over $2,000. We hope to go out again in October when the temps are a little cooler.
